Cost of Living
Intro……..

Hello this is Jasmine Oravitz
from Mr.Sals period 1 class.
In class we are writting a blog
about a social issue from early
1900’s. The topic i chosed is based on the
cost of living from then and now.In this blog i will tell you
whether the cost of living has increased or
decreased, how its a problem to the
people trying to survive with little
money to spare,and what tried to be
done to fix the high cost of living problem.

Between 1880 and 1920 people were moving from the countryside to the city which made other people suffer from low wages. Urban Growth is one reoson the high cost of living is increasing. Many people going to the cities could not afford their own apartments. But where these people could afford a living there are never any houses for them. Also when people move to the cities more people are losing thier jobs. Or the people who move to the cities cant get a job. A group called the politicans helped people with thier high cost of living but in return the people had to vote. Plunkitt a member of the New York State Assembly helped many people live. He once payed rent for a family who was being evicted and gave them money for food. Prices were rising everyday which took up virtually all the income of typical workers.
