Tuskegee Airmen

In 1941 during World War II the US Congresses forced the Army Air Corps to form an all black combat unit. Despite the disagreements in forming the 99th fighter squadron, men came from all over to Tuskegee institute creating the first all black fighter squadron.
Most men didn’t agree, and thought that the black airmen were incompetent of fighting a war and doing their jobs. “They said we didn’t have the intelligence, the demeanor, (or) the courage to be combat pilots. They learned differently. It was never about color; it was always about education and opportunity. All we needed was a chance and training. And we seized it when it came.” -unknown. Until men started to realize that these airmen were just as good if not better at completing their missions then most white men, did they begin to accept the help from the 99th fighter squadron.

People In World History

Hello, This is Jesse G from Mrs. Sal’s period 1 class.

Thomas Woodrow Wilson

Thomas Woodrow Wilson was the twenty-eight president of the United States, and a leading supporter of the League Of Nations. Wilson was intelligent, considerate and idealistic and that’s why he led the country through some of its darkest days during World War I. In 1885 Wilson became a teacher at Bryn Mawr College. Wilson was a great success, he coached a winning football team, and published a renowned work in comparative government called The State. Wilson’s intelligence, ability to stort details and commanding presence came to the attention of New Jersey’s political leaders who proposed that he run for public office. In 1910 Wilson was elected governer of New Jersey. In a short amount of time he pushed through major state reforms and he was swept into the White House by 1912. During his first term as president he passes significant tariff and banking reforms, but two years into his term, Wilson’s wife passed away and World War I broke out in Europe. As hard as Wilson worked to keep the United States out of the war, on April 6, 1917 the war entered the U.S.! Wilson was the leader in the 1918 Peace Conference that ended the war, but he pushed himself to hard and in 1919 he suffered from a severe stroke. Wilson was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and he retired with his 2nd wife, Edith Bolling Galt, who he married in 1915, 3 years after the tragic death of his first wife. He lived in Washington D.C. until 1924 when he died.

Archduke Francis Ferdinand

Francis Ferdinand was born in Graz, Austria, the oldest son of Archduke Charles Louis and the nephew of Emperor Francis Joseph. When he was 12 he inherited the title archduke of Austria-Este, he became the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire in 1899, after the deaths of his dad and cousin.

What are positive/negative externalities? HA!

Sean Brigode
Pd. 3

Say two people are trading something, like one person is buying a bike form a company. If something, either positive or negative, is made that effects a third party, say to make the bike you have excess waste after the process is done and you just dump the waste in some random spot. That is an externality, now wether it is positive or negative is dependant on weither or not that substance that was made after making the traded good, was good or bad. The goverment tries to regulate this because too much of these externalaties can cause in major damage to the third party. Like dumping waste into a river or after making something too must gold was made as an extranality in the process (Gold prices would go down).

+&-externalities

hola! my name is Tenia from period 3, economics.

A example of a positive externality is vaccines, because this is helping to end the capablity of spreading any viruses, flues, and diseases to the public and surrounding people. A example of a negative externality is foreign countries who dont have any sources of toilets, sinks, bathtubs, sewage systems etc. so all their waste are going into the river because that is there only relieable resource to clean off and get rid of feces. So by them doing this people are catching the polio virus and dying.

And the government intervenes to regulate them because if they didnt we would be worse off. Because we wouldnt have people trying to find cures and vaccines to these diseases and save us from them. Or we wouldnt have people putting their foot down saying no, we wont harm the people and environment.

Tuskegee Airmen

Clay Smith pd.1

On June 27, 1939 congress passed the civilian pilot training act which was sponsored by the United States to train civilian pilots. On September 25, 1939 the congress approved of the Tuskegee Institution to train African American pilots. Late February of 1940 they approved for Tuskegee to get their own airport and no longer needing Montgomery airport for their training.

Tuskegee Airmen CCR

The movie “The Tuskegee Airmen” was about African Americans who were being trained to become pilots in the United States Air Corps. Each of the men were called out to the military base in Tuskegee to learn how to fly and also how to react in combat. Although some of the men died in flight training, most of them were sent overseas. When the Tuskegee Airmen first joined the military, they were looked down upon, what with the level of racism in America at the time. Over time, the white pilots began to realize how important the African Americans were to the Air Corps. In the end, the Tuskegee Airmen earned the respect they deserved, and were even awarded the opportunity to escort bombers into Berlin.

Tuskegee Airman Assignment

Hello my name is Ransom in 20th Century Histroy class. We currently watched a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen were an all black flying squadron during WWII. Never lost a single B-25 bomber while bombing Germany. How they became to be was way back then. The first black pilots were turned down, and also turned down as aerial observers too. There attitudes of other pilots changed after seeing the Tuskegee airmen in action. Most of there minds changed from that black pilots weren’t good at flying to they can fly and save lifes. They started to create a legacy also. The legacy of helping the civil rights momovement. Even thought the perceptions of African-Americans were looked down appon at that time period.

Tuskegee Airmen 1 (TR Norman, Jacob Potts)

It all started on April 3,1939. On this date a law was passed which provided funds for African American pilots. However though the war department decided otherwise and used it to train African American pilots instead. In order to weed out most of the applicants, they would only accept people with a higher education or people who had some flight expierence. After all this had happened they sent some of the accepted applicants to different places to be trained. The group that was sent to be trained in Tuskegee would pass the training and amaze people in the process. This is how they became the first African American pilots in the United States Armed Forces.

The Tuskegee Airmen came into this with little to no respect at all. Everyone hated them at the beginning and wanted them all not to make it past the testing. Over the course of time that the Tuskegee Airmen were in training other pilots started respecting them more and more. When the Tuskegee Airmen starting fighting and defending in the war, other pilots gained a ton of respect. After they showed what they could do, the pilots who drived the bombers requested to have the Tuskegee Airmen defend them. Peoples attitudes towards the Tuskegee Airmen changed so much because the African Americans were doing an outstanding job fighting and defending our country. The Tuskegee Airmen started out at little to no respect and worked their way to be respected more than everyone else.

The Tuskegee Airmen created a great legacy for African Americans. They showed everyone that they could do more than just be slaves, they showed that they can help and protect our country. The perceptions changed dramatically about African Americans. They started their Tuskegee Airmen journey with no respect. Once they started passing test defending the country and doing an amazing job, people started looking up to them and admiring what they do. People first looked at them as slaves, but now they are looked at as great pilots who went through alot to help defend our country.

Tuskegee Airmen Assignment

Hi, This is Jesse G and Jenea M. from Mr. Sal’s 1st period 20th Century class.

The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of aspiring pilots, who came to the Tuskegee Airbase to begin training to become fighter pilots in the war. During the training they were discriminated against for being African American, the white pilots thought that they were insufficient compared to themselves. These pilots-in-training were put to tough tests, flight school, and maneuverability tests in the airplanes. After getting their pilots license, they started scouting and doing ground patrol runs.

The white airmen didn’t want to share the same space as the African Americans because they thought they weren’t good enough to fight in the war. Unbeknown st to their knowledge that they actually needed the African American fighter pilots to help escort the bomber planes so they wouldn’t lose their men to the opposing enemy planes. They needed them because they were better than what some white pilots have predicted.

The preception that the Tuskegee Airmen had changed was that colored men were just as good as the white men, if not better. They could fly and fight and bring down the enemy just as well as the best white pilot. They proved that everyone can do whatever they want no matter the color of their skin.
