The Royal Wedding

Hi this is Elena H. In England the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. The wedding is important because Prince William is second in line for the throne and his bride isn’t royal. I think Americans are so interested in this wedding because it’s something happy we all can celebrate. The main differences I saw about this wedding and other weddings is that this ones bigger and something like 1.3 million people came to see the new couple. One thing I found interesting is how modest it was compared to other royal weddings.

The Great War Game

Hi this is Elena H. from Mr. Sals period 6 class. The Great War Game is a game about World War I. You play the game by rounds. At the start of the game you get a number of economic points, and with then you buy armies, navies, industies, or coulenies. And with each industry and coulleny you buy you get another economic point to buy more of what you want. My team and I spent our economic points on navy and industry.
In the game you can also forge treaties with other nations to help you win the war. We as the Austro-Hungary Empire forged treaties with the Ottoman Empire and Great Britian. And, like in real life and warfare, you can break your treaties if your allies annoy you. We didn’t break any treaties but had some broken on us.

Early 1900s Safety Issues

Hello. This is Elena H. In the early 1900s the safety of the common worker were not taken into account by the owners and managers.
There were problems like how a factory for producing cloths burned down with the workers inside: the women that worked there had been sneaking out so the managers locked them in. The working children would breath in arsenic fumes from paint or get nicotine poisoning from tobacco or spine curvatures from bending over their designated sewing machines. The houses would be crowded with an average of 1.9 people per room in the poorer sections of the cities. Landlords divided smallapartment into more smaller apartments. More and more apartments started not getting any fresh air as new buildings rose around them.
There were some who tried to help solve these issues like Florence Kelley who tried to get child labor banned to get them out of the factories that would kill them. Jane Addams opened a settlement house for the poor to learn and a day care for their children, so they wouldn’t be left home alone, called the Hull House. Architects tried making air shafts between buildings to allow air, but people threw their trash in the air shafts.

Expectations

Hello everyone. I’m Elena H. My expectations about this class are that hopefully we get everything done and known how to use the technology. I would like to learn about the different electronic tools available to us students. Mostly because it will probaly help in the long run. In history I would like to learn about the gold rush because I find it interesting how people dropped everything for the chance to strike it rich in a “easy” manner.
