Tuskegee Airmen

Hello, my name is Tori G. and I am from Mr. Sal’s period 6 class. The Tuskeegee Airmen were a bunch of herioic african american men chasing their dream. Though they had a lot more pressure and had to work harder, they really pulled through. They came from many different city’s and areas. They all had the same dream, to become part of The United States Air force.

It started at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. There were 996 original airmen. They were a big mix of Pilots, Navigators, and bombardiers. They trained hard and fought the troubles in the sky and the racist skeptics on the ground. When Their training was over they were stationed over North Africa and Europe. Nobody expected what came next.

They were brilliant. Something about the Tuskegee Airmen was they never lost a bomber during some 200 escort missions. Everyone started seeing what the Tuskegee Airmen were all about. The white  men who were racist towards the Airmen started requesting the Black men to escort them in missions. They sank a German Destroyer with only their machine guns. These guys were good and everyone was aware.

The Myth was Conquered. African Americans could fly, be in war, and be the best around. They won more than 850 metals, eight Purple Hearts, 14 bronze stars, and three unit citations. People were looking at African Americans in a new light. It’s a big change that would affect war forever.
