Hello! My name is Erica from Sal’s period 9 20th Century class. Social problems were deffinately a huge issue during the early 1900’s. At this time, jobs paid so poorly that people started finding other ways to increase their income. Almost all of these ways were illegal. All of these problems were widespread and increased as the years came along. Some of the illegal actions included; gambling, robbery, prostitiution, and selling illegal drugs. As the cities population increased, the violence also increased. Gang fights and murder also had a great impact on people’s lives. Not only were these problems, but many other things as well. While all of these things were going on, there wasn’t even enough police officers of firefighters.
Sinclair and Rauschenbusch were two of the people who tried to solve these social problems. They tried to solve these issues by focusing on problems that they saw firsthand or had a personal oppinion on. Their ideas to solve the issues was to confront and emphasize the problems. These problems did not work. One reason for this is because there is still many of these issues today. There may not be as many but these issues are not completly fixed.

Hi my name is Maddy H and I am in Mr. Sals period one 20th century class. The topic that i chose was child labor. In the 1900’s child labor was used. It had its ups and downs.
Child labor was sometimes a good thing. The children would work to support there family and help raise money. Also children that are orphans get to make something so that they do not become sick and die becuase they don’t have anything.
Child labor was also a bad thing. Some of the work that children did at such a young age was dangerous. Even though they were supporting their family, it was very dangerous and not always did they live threw it.
So child lagbor had its pros and cons in the 1900’s.

Hi I’m Vera T. I’m in Mr. Sal period 3 ECON/POD class. I work with Amanda K. We did our project about bussiness. The reason why is that so many people go out on a weekend. So we figure we can see how many people would be out on a Sunday since 10-10-10 is on a Sunday. I couldn’t really take my picture so we use Amanda K. pictures she had took. At first I really didnt know how to put our pictures in a video. We use like three different websites before we found animoto. I think that our project turn out good but not the why we had wanted it to be. If I would change the fact that i would of taken my picture to make the video even more people.

Hi I’m Tyler and im in  Mr. Sal’s POD period three class. Our project idea was to take about ten pictures of us babysitting and on the job. The work that we did for the project went rather smoothly, and it was not a very boring project. If i could change anything about the project i would make it so that we could do things more organized throughout the actual process.

Hi! I’m Sondra K from, Mr. Salvucci’s. 9th Period. 20th century class.

There was a big problem in the early 1900s with the lack of laws concerning child labor. Because there were no laws to protect the kids, these children were totally taken advantage of by adults in the labor industry. These people got rich from making children work under horrible conditions and barely paid them a salary.

The children never had time for themselves, because they had to work so many hours a week. Therefore the children were not able to do things like kids can do today, like going to school each day monday-friday so they could have an education( so they can be able to read and right ) and also they would be able to go outside and hangout with other kids their age. The children in the 1900s were not able to do any of these things because, they had to work in bewteen 48 – 80 hours a week. Since they were working so many hours a week they barly had time to eat and sleep. The children only got about a total of 88 hours a week for theirselves. 88 hours of free time a week for children is not really anytime. That only gave them some time to eat and go to sleep. Thats about all the time that they get. Thats just not right i’m so glad that they now have laws for child labor. Today they have laws saying how much a kid can work in a day and also that children can not work untill they are about 16.

She investigated and reported on the use with child labor.
“In stores in the West Side” Children working in tobacco industry suffered from nicotine poisoning. Children in painting factories suffered from breathing in toxic aresenic fumes. The children in clothing factories suffered from spinal curvature hunching over sewing machines about 48 hours a week.
kelly had pressed federal goverment to outlaw the law of child labor. Kelly contiunued her battle against child labor after she had lefted the Hull House. She also helped organize consumer boycotts of goods manufactured by children or by workers toiling in unsanitary OR dangerouss conditions. Kelly is part of the (NCL) National Consumer League which most members were like Kelly, they didnt agree with child labor with how children were treated. Were in the middle or upper class women concerned about the promblems such as exploitation of children in factories.

Hey it’s DT again. We as Mr. Sal’s POD period 3 class just finished our one day on Earth project. I did my project with two other people and our topic was jobs that teenagers have. We picked this because it’s something we feel people over look. We feel alot of teenagers work tiring jobs and this was a way to show everyone what common jobs are for teenagers. I think our project will be good but if I could change anything I would have people taking pictures of me working rather than just things I do.

Hello,my name is Taylor, and I’m in Mr. Sal’s POD class 3rd period. The 10-10-10 project was an interesting project to do.For my project I took pictures and video of my little brothers soccer game.Their team did very well this year. On 10-10-10 my little brother scored four goals. The final score of the game was 10-0 ,which we found cool because they won by ten on 10-10-10.I think my project will come out pretty well because I got a good amount of pictures to use.I can not think of anything that I would change for this project.it was slot of fun to do this project .

Hi I’m Stewart and I am in Econ/Pod period 3. In this class we had to do a project called One Day On Earth and my group chose to do firefighting for our project. We chose this project because we felt that it would be easy to accomplish and to get done which in my eyes it was. My job for this project was to go and actually get all the pictures that we needed to get this project done and I feel with the work we did that our project turned out good. There are a few things though that I would like to change if I could. The first thing I would have liked to done differently would be instead of using a song from animoto it would have been cool if we recorded our on song like we did plan to do in the first place. The last thing would be that I would have liked to have gotten some more pictures for this project but the ones we do have I do not regret.

My name is Gage Hammerle and my project is on immigration. The problem with immigration is that around 1880 there were alot of people that were trying to come in the United States. Between 1880 and 1920 about 25 million people were in te country that were immigrants. Thats half the people living in the entire country in 1880. There wasn’t enough jobs and land to support that many people comming in at once. People needed jobs, people had large families to take care of and they all needed a roof over there heads.

Before 1890 most of the immigrants mostly came from northern and western Europe, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany and Scandinavian countries. Most of these peoplecould speak English good or atleast pretty well. Between 1890 and 1920 about 80 percent of all immigrants came from southern and eastern Europe. Most of these people had the same religion that revolve around the same single god.

These are some facts about immigrants but the issue is more so people need jobs and its not just about freedom. Its about oppurtunity. with all those people buisnesses needed to be made and people to run the buisness. There really isn’t a solution because people still come to this day. we kinda need them and again we kinda don’t. There is positive outcomes and negative outcomes of this problem which i would even really say is a problem. And if it is a problem we created it.

What up i am Craig and i participated in the One Day on Earth project on that day. I am in the class, honors civics. What i did was take five 10 minute videos outside of my house to capture what the day looked liked from my point of view. To tell the truth, this project was quite cool and it turned out good. I put the videos together in jaycut and that made my project even better. I don’t have anything on my project that i would change. Well that is it for my One Day on Earth project.
